It was a busy day on Friday at the Madness with the Maturity $10,000 Limited Horse Western Pleasure, the Three Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle, Senior Trail Futurity and the Three Year Old and Over Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot class.
Green and Moses Tie To Win Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class
Two horses battled it out for first place in the Three Year Old and Over Novice Horse Western Pleasure slot class, which ended in a tie for the first place prize money between Fourmula 1 with Katie Green showing for Brooke DeBuhr, and Girl Code, with Aaron Moses riding for Kristen Galyean. The two teams split the first two place prize money with each earning $13,750.
By virtue of the tiebreaker judge, Brook’s Fourmula 1 took home the first place trophy. “Katie has worked so hard on getting ‘Gemma’ working solid in all three gears both ways, and it all came together here tonight,” Brooke said. “I couldn’t have been more pleased with how they showed. I knew it was going to be good as soon as I watched Katie lope her off to the left and she smiled.”
“Gemma is such a cool horse,” added Katie. “We had our first show in April and it didn’t go quite like we planned, so it’s been a slow build to get where we are. I’ve had to learn to just stay out of her way. I’m so pleased with how she showed.”
The top five placings in the Open division included:
Co-Champions with trophy via tiebreaker: Fourmula 1, Katie Green for Brooke DeBuhr, $13,750
Co-Champions with reserve award via tiebreaker: Girl Code, Aaron Moses for Kristen Galyean, $13,750
Third: Ur Heart Or Mine, Mark Zeitler for Aubrey Jacobs, $5,000, also winning both the Intermediate and Limited Rider bonuses of $3,000 and $1,500 respectively.
Girl Code has been hitting all the right codes with Aaron Moses after winning the Virginia Maiden and wins at the Orange Blossom Classic and the A Sudden Impulse.
"She has been so good,” Aaron said of the mare known as ‘Annie.’ “It’s been very rewarding to watch her come together. She hasn’t missed a beat after having a very short break after showing in Ocala."
Mark Zeitler piloted Ur Heart Or Mine to win both the Limited and Intermediate Rider bonuses of $1,500 and $3,000 respectively, and placed third overall in the class to earn an additional $5,000..
In addition to these top placings, after pacing eighth in the class, Mike Hachtel earned $1,500 with SST Super Sport, showing for Nettie Olsen, unofficially earning his place in the NSBA Quarter Million Dollar Club!
Gilliam, Specht Earn Senior Trail Futurity Honors
In the Madness Senior Trail Futurity, Jason Gilliam earned the top spot with Cowboy Singstheblues, showing for Kambrie Atkins, earning $1,965.63. “He is fairly new to me, I got him last summer,” Jason said.
“He’s a great horse. We’re just starting to figure things out and bond. For a while, I was in his way and he was in my way, now we’re doing things together. He definitely surprises me because he gets better and better every time.
“I showed him in Ocala, and we were able to win one of the Senior Trail classes there, but I had a little bobble that kept us from making the big futurity there. Now with our success here, I know that it’s in there, and I have a lot of confidence in getting this horse ready. I’m fortunate to have two really great horses to show right now.”
In the Limited division, Brent Specht earned the Limited Rider bonus of $300 aboard HP Good Investment, showing for Alexandria Tanner. “I’ve had this horse since he was a two year old, and he’s 11 now, so I know him pretty well,” Brent said.
“It was a pretty tough pattern, but overall I thought we got through it pretty well. I was worried about trotting into the back-through, because we had some trouble with it yesterday, but it went well. There are a lot of tight spots, especially in the serpentines.”

Mark Zeitler Earns Open, Limited $10K Maturity Awards
Mark Zeitler continued his winning streak on Friday morning when he piloted No Doubt Im A Oh K for owners Richard and Betty Jo Carr, earning the Open check for $1,457 and the Limited Rider bonus of $250.
“We raised him, and he’s out of OHK GoodBars Krymsun, a mare that Rich and I both showed and by No Doubt Im Lazy,” Betty Jo explained. “He got a bit of a late start, so we’re really just getting his career started. I ride him some. Spring is always busy for me between breeding season and farming so we haven’t gotten out very much yet. Mark does a great job with him. We’ll be showing in Amateur Select and Maturity classes. I love that flat front leg and his lope, and he’s a great jogger too.
“I name my horses after famous things that happen, and our mare, Riley, had a double ovulation, so he was one of two embryos, that we named Brady and Gronk, after Tom Brady and Gronk after the year they won the Super Bowl.”

Susan Stocker and Hudson Win Three Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle
Susan Stocker piloted Best Asset N Town to win the Three Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle, earning a check for $608.
“I’ve had him since last June,” she said. “He’s by Good Better Best, and I originally was attracted to him because he is a full brother to the other horse I’ve been showing. What I like now is that he has that mind that I look for just like his brother. I’m just in love with his disposition. His barn name is Hudson.
“This was my first time to show him, and it’s only the third or fourth time I’ve ridden him, so I was a little unsure how we would mesh. Scott Jones has done an excellent job preparing him. Scott has coached me through a whole different outlook on things, gotten me outside my comfort zone and it’s been so much fun.”
Scott was pleased with his client’s maiden voyage. “Susan does a great job. Hudson is really exotic with his front leg and really good in his top line,” added Scott. “He’s a real Hunter Under Saddle horse which stands out when you are in there. He’s also so soft across the ground so it draws your eye to him.”
The team will be showing at the NSBA World Show and are working to qualify for the AQHA World Championship Show.
